Lab Tours

As part of Science in the Age of experience, we will visit one of Boston’s premier labs to see science in action. There are 4 labs that you will have the option of joining. Please indicate which tour you’d like to participate in within your registration. We will have roundtrip transportation leaving from the Joseph B Martin Conference Center to all labs.

 

Lab Tours > Artisan's Asylum > Dassault Systèmes®

ARTISAN'S ASYLUM

Tour lasts between 45-60 minutes
1:15pm – Transportation departure from Joseph B. Martin Conference Center
3:00pm – Transportation return time from Artisan’s Asylum

Artisan’s Asylum is a non-profit community workspace dedicated to the learning, teaching, and practice of fabrication. Their community shares fabrication tools, equipment, and expertise, offers affordable classes to the public, enjoys flexible membership and workspace rentals, and hosts speakers, special events and more.

This tour showcases all of their 14 unique shop areas and the stories of their makers working in their 160 studio spaces. Private tour length varies between 45 minutes to an hour.

MASSROBOTICS - TOUR FILLED

Tour lasts 30 minutes

3:00pm – Transportation return time from MassRobotics

MassRobotics an independent, non-profit organization serving as the innovation hub for robotics and connected devices. Through programming and events, they help bring together innovative startups and existing technology organizations to nurture the next generation of talent, and promote economic growth and innovation. By working with diverse local talent, they are helping to bring about the next global evolution of robotics.

On the tour you will learn about the history of MassRobotics and the growth of the robotics ecosystem.  We'll discuss the benefits our residents receive to help them be successful and the benefits our partners enjoy as well.  We'll walk through the space to see the residents shared resources in the laboratory, which includes not only tools, but robotics platforms.

MIT’S CENTER FOR BITS AND ATOMS - TOUR FILLED

Tour lasts 60 minutes
1:30pm – Transportation departure from Joseph B. Martin Conference Center
3:00pm – Transportation return time from MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms

MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms manages a research facility for making and measuring things on length scales from atoms to buildings. Rather than requiring user fees, it is funded by CBA's research programs for use by participating researchers, with additional available time shared with collaborating programs. The tools are grouped by nano, micro, meso, and macro feature sizes, and instrumentation, biology, computation, and communication capabilities.

GREENTOWN LABS

Tour lasts 60 minutes

Greentown Labs is a community of bold, passionate entrepreneurs creating solutions for today’s biggest climate and environmental challenges. Located in Somerville, Massachusetts, and founded in 2011, the Greentown Labs Global Center for Cleantech Innovation is the largest cleantech incubator in North America, operating a 100,000 sq. ft. campus comprised of prototyping and wet lab space, shared office space, a machine shop, electronics lab, and a curated suite of programs and resources.
