With over 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector, Karen is currently the Senior Advisor, Supervisory Risk Specialists, Operational Resilience within the Operational Resilience division at the Bank of England. In this role, she is responsible for developing the micro prudential supervisory approach for operational resilience. For the last 10 years, she has focused on firms’ business operating models, specifically on business model development, business operating model optimisation and operational resilience in order to consider the risks that can arise and assess the firms’ mitigation strategies. These risks include outsourcing, transformation, legal entity restructuring (through the lens of MAI, Structural Reform and Recovery & Resolution).
Karen’s other experience that helped deepen her knowledge and experience of firms’ operating models includes a stint in the life and pensions industry at Standard Life as well as managing new product development at Standard Life. Prior to that, she worked in consultancy and advisory for KPMG, specialising in mergers and acquisitions, business performance improvement, outsourcing and cost transformation.
With over 30 years’ consulting experience, Gareth is an independent advisor specializing in operational resilience, corporate crisis management and continuity. He has been the Resilience Lead on a range of projects, including for the Bank of England’s RTGS replacement (CNI technology payments system processing over £600 billion daily) and a £500 million technology replacement for an investment bank.
Previously Gareth served for 21 years in the UK Royal Air Force’s Survive to Operate branch. In his spare time, he volunteers for an NGO, ALLFED, planning for systemic and existential food risks that are outside national government focus. He holds a masters in Risk, Crisis and Disaster Management from Leicester University, is a Fellow of the Institute of Civil Protection and Emergency Planning Society and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Management, Business Continuity.

Michel Angevare, Lead Business Architect Rabobank Wholesale & International, has more than 20 years’ experience in IT, in highly regulated industries like pharmaceutical and financial services.
Michel has worked in roles varying from project manager to CIO but mostly in a strategic decision making role. In his current position he manages a team of business architects who oversee all international banking activities of Rabobank outside the Netherlands. Their key responsibility is the delivery of the future Business and IT architectures (processes, products, systems and data), roadmaps and with a current focus on agility, simplification, decommissioning and digitization.
