Integrated Application of the Design and Simulation for NIO Automotive Electric Drive System

The design and development process of electric drive systems for electric vehicles involves multiple physics and multiple disciplines, such as structures, thermal, electromagnetic, vibration and noise, lubrication, etc. Working based on standardization, automation, and platform management, as well as through design simulation collaboration is important to achieve faster and more accurate completion of simulation tasks.

Based on a single data source on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, NIO can realize the integration of the CAD model and CAE model, break the barriers of file-based design and simulation, realize the integration of data-based design and simulation, and seamlessly connect the design model, simulation model, and result analysis, so as to realize the rapid iterative verification of the design. At present, in the EH department of NIO, based on MODSIM tools on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, a lot of work is being carried out, such as the structural simulation of electromotor shell under the interference fit and other working conditions, the CFD simulation of pressure drop and heat transfer in cooling channels,  thermal-stress coupling simulation, MDO, simulation process automation and customization, HPC integration, etc. Leveraging the advantage of MODSIM on the 3DEXPERIENCE, the digital community in design and simulation and cooperation on a single platform are realized, and simulation capabilities with Standardization, Process-oriented, and automation are built, thereby greatly improving the efficiency of simulation.
