Accurate Prediction of Electric Vehicle Real-World Range and Comfort Using High Fidelity Digital Development Process
Real-world driving range and occupant comfort for BEVs are becoming more important as demands for battery electric vehicles (BEV) rise. Therefore, an efficient and robust design and verification process is necessary to achieve the design targets.
This presentation demonstrates an innovative BEV digital development process that enables full-digital high-fidelity fast analysis to predict electric vehicle real-world range and occupant comfort. The process leverages high-fidelity 3D computational fluid dynamics, conjugate heat transfer analysis, and full vehicle 0D/1D systems analysis. The process integrates realistic wind aerodynamic efficiency analysis, advanced tire modeling, drive cycle cooling airflow analysis, integrated cabin comfort and HVAC system performance, and full-digital electrified powertrain analysis. In this work, we demonstrate an improved model fidelity compared to that of traditional analysis and a significant reduction in the need for physical testing, therefore enabling a faster and more robust design and leading to better vehicle performance.
