FMEA in an MBSE Toolset
Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) in an MBSE Toolset
  • April 24 2024 - 10:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Safety and Reliability assessment and analysis are an important part of engineering today’s complex systems. This is particularly important in the medical, aerospace, automotive, energy, and defense industries. Completing Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) has generally been accomplished using unique tools by subject matter experts. Conducting FMEA in the same toolset as the system design is advantages to the design because they can show the logic behind the analysis and traceability to the individual elements and characteristics of the system design to correct or prevent failures of the system.

This presentation explores the FMEA plugin applications available in the CATIA Magic system engineering toolset. The FMEA plugin is an extension of the system modeling language (SysML) and provides traceability and analysis in the same modeling environment as the system design.

The presentation will explore the extension, show how one can develop a typical FMEA table, show traceability to Safety analysis from failure mode analysis, and show traceability to design characteristics to prevent or reduce the risk to an acceptable level.
