Arjo grew up in a small farmers' village in South Holland, the Netherlands. The place he grew up in was ideal to play outside and build things due to the amount of space it had, so it is not really a surprise he grew up to become an engineer. He worked in an auto repair shop, learning the ins and outs of petrol cars and realized how far from perfect they were. This would, later on, convince him of the necessity to build electric vehicles. University and the solar team After finishing high school, Arjo went to the University of Eindhoven to study for his MSc in Electrical Engineering, in which he specialized in Power Electronics and Control Systems. His knowledge didn’t stay unnoticed since he later got a call from Lex to join the solar team. In the team, he fulfilled the role of Chief Powertrain and spent a lot of time modeling energy consumption and designing the solar panel.
Arjo and Qurein decided to call Lex a few months prior to their graduation to start thinking about their options for the future. This led to the magical engineer’s group meeting every Thursday, which eventually led to founding Lightyear. Currently, Arjo fulfills the role of Chief Technology Officer and is responsible for the technology roadmap, IP, vehicle specification, trend watching, and benchmarking.
“We're moving more towards a sharing economy, and in the long term we'll be flying :)” — Arjo
