Acquisition success of modern complex systems depends on exploiting digitally-enabled model-based methods across the lifecycle.
Over the past decade, the Defense Acquisition ecosystem has increasingly relied on modern methods, especially model-based approaches, to enhance acquisition success. The shift towards Digitally-Enabled, Model-Based Acquisition and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) reflects decades of development, with strategies like Digital Engineering (DES) and Digital Modernization (DMS) paving the way. These initiatives have driven updates to 33 key DoD policies, acquisition pathways, and guides, bridging the gap between strategic and operational implementation.
To streamline this effort, we are employing the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) to create a comprehensive Model-Based Acquisition Capability Maturity Model. This model enables organizations to conduct assessments, set objectives, and align their operations with Defense Acquisition goals. It also fosters innovation adoption and enhances transparency across government acquisition processes, ultimately contributing to competitive differentiation.
