Electric drives and drive trains present calculation engineers with new challenges. In particular, the analysis of the vibration behaviour of electric drive trains requires the consideration of various excitation sources, some of which can overlap significantly in terms of their frequency range. For this reason, in addition to the characteristic excitation orders of the individual sources, characteristic orders from the modulation of the sources in the holistic system can also occur and significantly influence the oscillation behaviour.
This fact requires consideration of the vibration behavior in a holistic model structure including all relevant excitation sources and nonlinearities of the individual model building blocks or model components. Multibody simulation (MBS) is the tool of choice for this type of analysis. The MBS enables the holistic consideration of the eigen dynamics of shafts, rotor, stator and housing in combination with the excitations from rolling bearings, the meshing of the gear stages and the electromagnetics of the electric machine. The submodeling approach in Simpack enables the calculation engineer to analyze comprehensively the system properties described above at an individual component level - such as the electric motor, and transmission/gear box - as well as in the interaction of the entire drive train up to integration in the entire vehicle.
