Simulia Opera is a finite element analysis package which can be used to develop 2D and 3D models with simulation of multiphysics effects including electromagnetics, space charge, stress and thermal.
Opera has been used for more than 35 years to design accelerator magnets for both industrial and research applications. Opera has been used to successfully design all types of magnets for accelerators including permanent magnet, DC and AC dipoles, quadrupoles, and higher order magnets, undulators and solenoids. Opera can track particles through the simulated fields, with or without space charge effects.
Opera can simulate both low and high temperature superconductors, including superconducting quench events where a superconducting magnet rapidly transitions to the normal state. This type of simulation accounts for the effects of induced eddy currents and heating.
