Integrated EMC and thermal simulation with CST Studio Suite
When designing electronics for optimum electromagnetic compatibility (or EMC) a designer will find other requirements that conflict with EMC best practice. For instance, slowing signal rise and fall times will reduce the noise spectrum of a signal but can lead to overheating issues in the thermal domain. Jumping back and forth between simulation tools to evaluate electromagnetic and thermal performance requires extra man and computing power to evaluate these tradeoffs.
SIMULIA’s CST Studio Suite not only contains state of the art electromagnetic simulation methods to characterize electromagnetic performance of electronics hardware, but (unknown to some) it also contains several capable thermal solving methods. PCB assemblies can also be efficiently exported into SIMULIA Abaqus to run analyses such as thermo-mechanical fatigue and moisture diffusion. This presentation will explain how thermal simulation can be performed using CST Studio Suite eliminating the need to hand off the model to another software package (or another engineer) allowing better decisions to be made in less time. The presentation will also show how CST models can be exported into SIMULIA Abaqus for structural simulations using a seamless process.
