In this Tech Talk, we will show how the 3DEXPERIENCE platform has been used to couple together CAD using the Mechanical Designer role, electromagnetic simulation tools CST and Opera.
The concept of a single unified model for design of a magnet has long been sought. Any meaningful virtual twin model must embody the ability to simulate the electromagnetic, thermal and structural performance of the device, as well as retaining the full geometric, materials and manufacturing information. Not only this, but the virtual twin must be able to respond to a design change and identify that either some of the simulations need to be repeated to capture the effect of the design change or, as a minimum, to reliably identify that the last simulation results available were from a previous virtual prototype. Coupled with this, the ability to optimize the design accounting for input from multiple areas of physics is paramount.
In this Tech Talk, we will show how the 3DEXPERIENCE platform has been used to couple together CAD using the Mechanical Designer role, electromagnetic simulation tools CST and Opera, and optimization capabilities provided by iSight. In this connected workflow, the profile of the steel poles of an electromagnetic quadrupole were designed and parametrized using the Mechanical Designer role. The parametrized design was then used as the basis for a multiphysics optimization, visualising the physics results from each discipline through a single GUI on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
