SIMULIA solutions for aerodynamic and aeroacoustic evaluation of multicopter vehicles from the component level to entire vehicles under real world conditions.
Design and development of autonomous air vehicles, both for drone delivery applications and larger passenger carrying EVTOLs, present many challenges. Maximizing range and carrying capacity through aerodynamic optimization while managing battery cooling and safety requirements is essential for commercial viability of designs. These vehicles also need to be robust – operating at the high levels of reliability mandated by the FAA, but within a complex urban environment that is drastically different compared to traditional aircrafts.
Developing components and systems with physical testing is a costly and time-consuming process, while flight tests of prototype aircraft come with their own risks. Performance attributes such as total vehicle noise or aerodynamic stability are impossible to evaluate through component testing and require expensive late stage redesign when uncovered during test flights.
