Biological electromagnetics (Bio-EM) is the study of how fields propagate through and interact with the human body. With SIMULIA CST Studio Suite®, engineers can simulate the effect of a device in-silico before testing it in-vivo, shortening the prototyping process and adding patient safety.
As measurement is typically not an option inside the human body, EM and Multiphysics simulation are the only way to analyze the complex field distribution inside the body, to ensure the functionality of the device as well as to understand and avoid hazards due to the power absorption inside the tissues.
In this seminar, we discuss how simulation can be used to analyze and optimize imaging equipment such as MRI coils and microwave imaging devices, implants such as pacemakers and sensors, and aid in the planning of tumor treatment such as RF ablation and hyperthermia. SIMULIA CST Studio Suite® can be used to calculate all types of specific absorption rate (SAR) quantities and contains a Multiphysics module with bio-heat solvers that can calculate temperature distributions including effects of living tissues such as metabolic heating, blood perfusion and human thermoregulation.
