CAE for Product Development: Challenges, Lessons Learned and What Lies Ahead

What is a good computational model? Is the model oversimplified or too complicated? Do I need a multiphysics model? Does the model need more validation? These are some of the questions one faces while using computational modeling tools. The first part of the talk will focus on how answers to these questions evolve over time during different phases of product development. Examples from presenter’s past experience will be used for illustration. Recent advances in technology, like introduction of artificial intelligence in various products, would likely change the way these products are currently used. This could lead to newer product requirements, designs and increased need for computational modeling. In the second part of the talk, the presenter will share his thoughts on what some of these changes might look like and how this could influence modeling tools and computational resource requirements in future.
